| To encourage
the younger generation to engage in healthy pastimes and athletic
activities, in addition to sponsoring various sports competitions,
UMC Science and Culture Foundation has held its UMC Cup Basketball
Open Tournament beginning in 1999. It has since grown to become
a major annual competition for colleges and universities. Beginning
in 2007, UMC Science and Culture Foundation collaborated with
Hsinchu City government to hold a field trip to 18 Peaks Mountain,
attracting more than 10,000 participants. This activity was
based on UMC's interest in public welfare, environmental protection
and community care to demonstrate UMC's determination in caring
for the environment and fulfilling its role as a social citizen.
UMC Cup Basketball Open Tournament (since
1999)
UMC Science and Culture Foundation has held its UMC Cup Basketball
Open Tournament since 1999, which has now become a major annual
competition for colleges and universities. Total prizes amount
to more than NTD 100,000, which is the highest prize total
among all second-tier basketball tournaments.
UMC Run "Here We Go" (since
2007)
UMC Science and Culture Foundation held a field trip to 18
Peaks Mountain by collaborating with Hsinchu City government,
which attracted more than 10,000 participants. This activity
was based on UMC's interest in public welfare, environmental
protection and community care to demonstrate UMC's determination
in caring for the environment and fulfilling its role as a

The Sponsorship of William Jones Cup
International Basketball Tournament and NBA Madness Events
(since 2006)
UMC sponsors large domestic sports competitions such as William
Jones Cup International Basketball Tournaments and NBA Madness
Events to promote basketball in Taiwan. UMC also invites minority
groups to participate as well.
Basketball Carnivals (1999)
UMC held a series of activities in basketball carnivals
such as basketball open tournaments, summer and winter camps
and three-on-three games to encourage people's interest in
sports.
Run for Hope (2000)
UMC held this event to raise money for Taiwanese runners
to be able to participate in the March 2001 Special Olympics.
6,800 people participated in this event and more than NTD
4 million was raised.
