UMC was the first semiconductor company to list on the Taiwan Stock Exchange in 1985. The company's listing on the New York Stock Exchange in September 2000 was the largest Asian IPO in the history of the exchange. UMC employs approximately 12,000 people worldwide, and over 60% of the employees have advanced degrees.
