UMC's full-service recreation center is now open for UMC employees and their families. The 4-story building is centrally located among UMC's six Hsinchu-based fabs and offers numerous facilities, including an Olympic-sized swimming pool and full gymnasium that includes regulation-length basketball and badminton courts. Robert Tsao, chairman of UMC, said, "UMC considers its highly skilled workforce as the main asset in helping us to maintain our competitiveness. To attract the level of world-class talent present at UMC requires a working environment that not only fosters productively, but also enhances individual well-being. The opening of this new recreation facility is another step towards this commitment, and gives our employees access to a conveniently located facility for a variety of physical activities." The 125,000 square foot site also includes a jogging track, full spa, supervised children's pool, and well equipped weight room. In addition, the center offers a full schedule of fitness and arts and crafts classes.
