Chairman Hung
graduated from Tam Kang University in Taiwan with a degree in
accounting. He joined UMC in 1991 and has served as UMC's Chief
Financial Officer, and previous to becoming chairman he was
senior vice president of the company. In 2004, Institutional
Investor Magazine recognized Mr. Hung as the semiconductor sector's
best CFO in their Asia Equities Market Report. Mr. Hung is also
chairman of NexPower Technology Corporation.

Shih-Wei
Sun
Vice Chairman
Dr. Shih-Wei Sun is currently UMC's vice chairman. He was previously the company's CEO, and prior to that he served as Chief Operating Officer, accountable for 12-inch operations and business. He joined UMC in 1995 and has been responsible for the operation of UMC Fabs 6A, 8AB, 8D, and 12A, along with Central R&D. Prior to joining UMC, Dr. Sun worked for Motorola in the Advanced Products Research and Development Laboratory (APRDL) for 10 years. He received his Ph.D. degree in Materials Science and Engineering from Northwestern University in 1985.

Po
Wen Yen
Chief Executive Officer
Po Wen Yen currently serves as UMC's Chief Executive Officer. Prior to the CEO position, Mr. Yen was senior vice president responsible for 12-inch operations. Mr. Yen joined UMC in 1986 and was responsible for the operation of fabs 8AB and 8C. He also served as the vice president for UMC-SG, UMC's 300mm operation in Singapore. In 2003, Mr. Yen received the National Manager Excellence Award from Chinese Professional Management Association.
Mr. Yen earned his bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering from National Tsing Hua University and his masters in Chemical Engineering from National Taiwan University.

Wen
Yang Chen
COO,
Responsible for Production and Operation Integration, Engineering & Operation Support, and New Business Development.
Wen Yang Chen currently serves as UMC's
COO responsible for fab operations. Prior to UMC, Mr. Chen
worked for companies including Digital Equipment Corporation
and Vishay. Mr. Chen joined UMC in 1980 responsible for the
operation of UMC's 6A, 8AB, 8E, 8D and 8F fabs, specializing
in development and integration of semiconductor processes
and factory management. Mr Chen received Award of the Excellent
Engineers from Chinese Institute of Engineers in 1994 and
Manager Excellence Award in 2002.
Mr. Chen received his bachelor's degree in Physics from National
Central University and his master's in Electronics from National
Chiao Tung University.

Peter
Courture
Senior Vice President, and
General Counsel
Peter Courture is UMC's Senior Vice President,
Strategy and General Counsel, with responsibility for alliances,
joint ventures and Intellectual Property and Legal Affairs.
Mr. Courture joined UMC in 1983 as legal counsel, served as
General Counsel since 1993 and as Chief Strategic Officer
since 2000. He was elected to the board in May 2001 and served
until February 2004. Mr. Courture earned his bachelor's degree
(Phi Beta Kappa) in Economics from Yale College in 1976 and
a J.D. degree (Order of the Coif) from Stanford Law School
in 1979.
Prior to joining UMC, Mr. Courture was a partner in the Silicon
Valley law firm Wilson Sonsini Goodrich and Rosati representing
semiconductor and other high technology companies. Mr. Courture
also serves as a court appointed neutral for the U.S. District
Court for the Northern District of California, as a Judge
Pro Tempore for the Santa Clara County Superior Court and
as a teacher at Stanford Law School.
