UMC Vice Chairman Peter Chang Delivers
Keynote Address at 2003 Semico Summit
Phoenix, Arizona, March 11, 2003 - Peter Chang,
vice chairman at world-leading semiconductor foundry UMC, will deliver
the keynote speech at the 2003 Semico Summit. The conference, held
March 9-11, allows semiconductor industry executives to focus on
pressing business and technology issues related to the industry.
In his keynote, Chang will provide an outlook for the foundry industry
and discuss drivers of foundry growth, the migration to 300mm production,
and the effect new foundry entrants will have on the industry.
Peter Chang joined UMC in 1989 and is responsible
for operations support as well as the company's Europe Business
Group. He has overseen UMC's fab operations and the Quality Services
Division, and was president of United Semiconductor Corporation
(USC), one of UMC joint venture companies. Under his leadership,
USC was widely acclaimed as the most technologically advanced and
profitable foundry company in the world. He has also served as President
and CEO of UMC.
Prior to joining UMC, Mr. Chang worked for companies
including Hewlett-Packard, Zilog, Seeq Technology, and Paradigm
Technology. He holds a master's degree in Electrical Engineering
from the University of Texas at Austin, where he also did his doctoral
studies. Mr. Chang's expertise is in process module development,
process integration and fab operations.
The Association of Business Management in 1994
recognized Mr. Chang's achievements in the business world with the
National Management Award for Outstanding Performance in Production.
The Chinese Management Association awarded him the K. T. Lee Management
Medal in 1998.
