UMC First Company in Taiwan to Receive
Level A Grade from GRI for its CSR Report
HSINCHU, Taiwan, March 14, 2008 - UMC, a leading global semiconductor
foundry, today announced that its corporate social responsibility
(CSR) report has received a Level A grade from Global Reporting
Initiative (GRI), signifying that UMC's CSR report is aligned with
G3 Sustainability Reporting Guidelines. UMC is the first company
in Taiwan to achieve this standard.
The A grade demonstrates that UMC's CSR report
disclosure level meets GRI's stringent international guidelines.
The accomplishment also illustrates UMC's emphasis on communication
with stakeholders and information transparency, which enables UMC
to maintain its position as a world-leading corporation.
UMC began publishing annual corporate environmental
reports (CER) in 2000. In 2006, UMC evolved its CER into CSR to
include the company's efforts and achievements in environmental
protection, corporate governance and social events participation.
GRI introduced its G3 Sustainability Reporting Guidelines in October
2006, and UMC's next CSR report that was released in 2007 earned
GRI's highest grade. The Level A grade demonstrates UMC's determination
to be considered an international leader in the CSR field.
UMC has put forth significant efforts in every
aspect of CSR over the years, with successful results that have
recently gained worldwide recognition. In addition to publishing
its CSR report every year, UMC has a dedicated CSR web page on the
company's official website to disclose related policies and achievements
in CSR.
