UMC Allies with i2 to Enhance "MY UMC" Customer
Supply Chain Solution
DALLAS and SUNNYVALE,
CA — October 23, 2000 — i2 Technologies, Inc.
(NASDAQ: ITWO), the leading provider of intelligent e-business
and marketplace solutions, and UMC (NYSE: UMC), a global leader
in semiconductor foundry services, announced today the live
implementation of i2 TradeMatrix Demand Planner™, Supply
Chain Planner™ and Demand Fulfillment™ in
the UMC foundry's newly released My UMC customer portal (my.umc.com).
With this fully integrated
planning and execution system, UMC is able to improve customer
service significantly while reducing supply chain costs.
UMC has implemented i2 TradeMatrix™ Solutions to accomplish
several of its most critical e-business objectives. The resulting
system is designed to allow visibility across multiple fabs
and assembly/test facilities, corporate-wide demand allocation
and resource rationalization, intelligent planning that enables
optimal usage of capacities and automated multiple-fab sourcing
decisions, and rapid response to order inquiry and promising
processes to improve customer services.
"We are now able to match customer order requirements in
real-time to available capacity across multiple fabs, providing
an optimal sourcing solution. This is far superior to
the capabilities of the conventional decision support tools
used in the industry," said Chris Bettis, vice president of
UMC USA who leads Central Planning and Customer Service for
the USA sales office. "We are able to create competitive
advantages by incorporating i2's industry-leading semiconductor
supply chain solutions with UMC's unique foundry knowledge
and expertise."
With the integrated planning environment powered by i2, UMC's
critical demand management supply planning and order fulfillment
business processes are designed to operate on an event-driven
basis. This enables UMC planners to identify chain-wide
problems that impact customer orders immediately, and resolve
these issues quickly and effectively. As a result, it
is anticipated that order confirmation lead-time will be reduced
from days to hours or minutes.
"We are excited that leading semiconductor foundry UMC, has
adopted i2's solutions as the backbone for its build-to-order
fulfillment capability. The rapid deployment and value creation
across UMC's global operations will enhance its world-class
foundry services," said Bruce Jacquemard, i2 senior vice president,
High Tech Business Unit. "With these systems in place, UMC
has now built the foundation to meet its e-business objectives."
