UMC Categorically Denies Newspaper Report of SIS Fab Acquisition

Today's Economic Daily News carried a report claiming that the probability of UMC acquiring Silicon Integrated System's (SIS) wafer fab has greatly increased. UMC categorically states that there is no truth to this report. UMC has stated publicly that it has no intention to purchase any existing fabs in Taiwan, and restates that it has no intention to purchase the SIS fab. We believe that certain parties have spread these rumors with the intention of influencing the stock market and hope that the governing authorities will take notice.
