UMC Singapore Receives Award from the Health Promotion Board of Singapore

Singapore, October 5, 2006 - UMC Singapore, the local branch office of leading global semiconductor foundry UMC, today announced that it has received the "Singapore H.E.A.L.T.H (Helping Employees Achieve Life-Time Health) Award from the Health Promotion Board (HPB) of Singapore.

UMC Singapore was awarded the "silver" award following HPB's audit and evaluation of the facility and operations, which gives national recognition to companies that strive to help their employees lead healthy lives.

The Award demonstrates UMC Singapore's positive corporate image and underscores the company's achievement in Workplace Health Promotion programs. It also distinguishes UMC Singapore as an employer with a corporate culture that promotes the health and well being of its employees, a strength that provides a competitive advantage to attract the region's best talent.

Mr. Wong Yew Meng, Chairman of Health Promotion Board, will present the award during the awards ceremony that will take place at the Orchard Hotel, Grand Ballroom on October 5, 2006.
