Entry Submission for the April 22 Earth Day UMC 6th Eco Echo Award Begins! Cultivating the next generation of sustainability force

UMC established the Eco Echo Award to promote ecological diversity and launched the Award on the April 22 Earth Day! The 6th Eco Echo Award will continue to offer a total of NT$3 million in prize money to solicit high-quality ecological conservation projects and youth environmental action plans. The entries submitted for the Eco Echo Award each year demonstrated the hard work and actions that many groups and students put into ecological conservation. With the impact of the COVID-19 on the world, we hope that the conservation stories from all corners of Taiwan can become visible through the Eco Echo Award platform and inspire more people to become involved in ecological conservation, increase public love for the natural environment of Taiwan and increase awareness of environmental sustainability.

UMC has not only devoted itself to the Eco Echo Award, fully embracing the spirit of the 17th United Nations sustainable development goal--Partnership for the Goals, but also joined hands with value chains to enable more companies to become drivers of environmental sustainability. A total of eight corporate partners responded to the 6th Eco Echo Award, namely 3M, Edwards Technologies Limited, Tokyo Electron Limited, Hermes-Epitek Corporation, Wholetech System Hitech Limited, Faraday Technology, Taiyo Nippon Sanso Engineering Taiwan, and Unimicron, to unite the strength of enterprises and work hard for a better environment.

To date, the Eco Echo Award has supported 30 ecological conservation projects and youth environmental action plans across Taiwan. The accumulated prize money has exceeded NT$10 million. The award winning projects are diverse, ranging from tree frogs on land and birds in the sky to marine corals. This gathering of "land, sea and air" also reflects Taiwan's rich ecological environment. The 2020 Youth Environmental Action Award received enthusiastic participation from school teachers and students. The proposed environmental initiatives were very rich, and included topics such as environmental pollution from cigarette butts, environmental protection research on night markets, marine pollution by fish farming, okara reuse, protection of old trees, conservation of tree frogs and power conservation. The topics successfully achieved the Eco Echo Award goal of environmental education and fulfilled the philosophy of cultivating the next generation of eco-friendly seeds.
