Overview

Capitalizing on UMC’s core competencies, the Energy Saving Service Team was founded in 2016 to give social welfare organizations access to free consultations on energy conservation & building safety, as well as improvement services. In 2019, the initiative expanded with the Southern Taiwan Science Park (STSP) Energy Saving Service Team. The initiative is the first in Taiwan to provide practical energy conservation assistance and improvement services to disadvantaged groups.

The Energy Saving Service Team consists of UMC volunteers with a wide range of professional backgrounds, including water and power conservation, air conditioning, lighting, plant construction, and fire safety. Their services range from easy tasks – hanging fire hoses in the right position, unclogging water pipes, adjusting air conditioning systems to improve efficiency – to more challenging projects, such as upgrading power sockets, installing energy-efficient lighting, improving water drainage, and reinforcing building walls. The Team caters to each organization’s needs, providing the services they need most.

The Energy Saving Service Team has served 41 social welfare organizations and 932 volunteers have participated to date. The Team’s efforts have led to a 3,000-ton reduction in accumulated carbon emissions and NT$26.74 million in total savings.
