Seeds of Hope—A Diverse Educational Program for Youth Empowerment
|
UMC is dedicated to helping youths develop diverse skills and talents through education. To assist students, UMC’s Culture and Technology Foundation partners with local groups to run tutoring centers in Hsinchu and Tainan. University students are recruited to tutor at the centers, which offer academic support and life skills training for elementary and junior high students to cultivate independent learning capabilities.
UMC also sponsors various sports clubs and arts and cultural groups in Taiwan for youths, including a karate team in Nantou, the Tung-Shih Senior High School’s baseball team, TECO Technology Foundation’s Exclamation Mark Project, the What’s Young Performing Arts League, and the Chengjheng High School Art Education Project. These programs encourage young people to learn different skills, which can expand their horizons and lead to more opportunities in the future.

Seeds of Life Education Volunteers—Promoting Life Education
Following the devastation caused by Typhoon Morakot in 2009, UMC volunteers founded the Love Story Troupe, the first theater group by workers in the tech industry. The group uses drama as a medium to tell stories and teach life lessons to children. To date, UMC volunteers have performed 69 shows across six cities, with cumulative audience of more than 22,000. The initiative also offers employees an opportunity to express themselves on stage, and show their creative side outside of work. In the spirit of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), UMC’s Love Story Troupe hopes to share the message of sustainability with the community through its future performances.
