UMC (NYSE: UMC, TWSE: 2303) was founded in 1980 as Taiwan's first semiconductor company. It later became the first IC company to list on the Taiwan stock exchange. In 1995, UMC transformed its business strategy to a pure-play foundry model, and has since grown to become a global leader in semiconductor process technology and manufacturing. UMC's customer-driven foundry solutions allow chip designers to leverage the strength of the company's leading-edge processes, which include production proven 65nm, 45/40nm, mixed signal/RFCMOS, and a wide range of specialty technologies. Production is supported through 10 wafer manufacturing facilities that include two advanced 300mm fabs in Taiwan and Singapore. UMC employs approximately 12,000 people worldwide and has offices in the United States, Europe, Japan, Taiwan, and Singapore.
