Hsinchu, Taiwan, August 23 , 2013 - United Microelectronics Corporation (NYSE: UMC; TWSE: 2303) ("UMC"), a leading global semiconductor foundry, today announced it has passed the assessment by AEO Center of Custom Administration, Taiwan Ministry of Finance, and became the first Taiwan foundry to acquired AEO certification. As an industry pioneer, UMC proactively echoes Government's AEO policy, and strives for supply chain security issue. With the AEO certification, UMC now has the benefit of accelerating custom clearance process.

Custom Administration of Taiwan Ministry of Finance has signed a MRA (Mutual Recognition Arrangement) with United States November, 2012, and is also in the process of signing with Singapore, Israel; it shows the necessity of AEO implementation as an international trading trend. UMC called an AEO kick-off meeting this February, filled the application to Taipei Custom Office in May, and completed document assessment, field validation in July, and officially acquired AEO certification in manufacture, importer, and exporter, three categories today.
