UMC Again Ranked Top 10 in Corporate Citizenship by Taiwan's CommonWealth Magazine

Hsinchu, Taiwan, August 28 , 2013 - United Microelectronics Corporation (NYSE: UMC; TWSE: 2303) ("UMC"), a leading global semiconductor foundry, today announced that it has again achieved a top-10 ranking in CommonWealth Magazine's Corporate Citizenship Award. UMC improved over last year's top-10 rank by placing 6th among large-scale enterprises. The Corporate Citizenship Award, which evaluates over 2,000 companies from various categories, is one of the most renowned recognitions for companies in Taiwan. Po Wen Yen, CEO at UMC, received the award on behalf of the company at the Far Eastern Hotel in Taipei today.

The judges recognized UMC for its solid, outstanding performance in 4 aspects: Corporate Governance, Corporate Commitment, Social Participation and Environmental Protection. UMC gained special honors for its long-term efforts involving disadvantaged children, carbon emission reduction programs, and strong green competitiveness activities

All the data scored and ranked was according to the following 4 main indicators: Corporate Governance, Corporate Commitment, Social Participation and Environmental Protection.
