Hsinchu, Taiwan, December 10, 2003 - United Microelectronics Corporation (NYSE: UMC) today announced that the 6.6 magnitude earthquake recorded in Eastern Taiwan today at 12:38 P.M. had only a very minimal impact on UMC's operations. UMC's Hsinchu fabs sustained no impact from the earthquake, while Fab 12A in Tainan experienced minor effects due to the automatic shutdown of a few tools within the fab. There was no interruption in power or water service, and normal production resumed shortly after the incident. |
