UMC Statement on December 25 Power Outage

On the evening of December 25 at 6:30pm, a power outage occurred in the Hsinchu Science Based Industrial Park. Immediately, UMC's emergency power generators went into operation as designed. However, at approximately 7:40pm, we discovered smoke from the generator room at Fab 8E due to overheating of the generators. UMC immediately took measures and brought the situation under control by 8:00pm. At 8:22pm, the power supply was restored by Taipower. Fab 8E recommenced all operations at 8:40pm and has remained in normal operation since. Fortunately, no one was injured from the incident and no production lines were affected due to the fact that the generators were housed in a separate building. The initial estimate from damaged generator equipment is approximately NT$ 30 million. We are also currently evaluating the impact on production due to the temporary loss in power.
