The 12nm FinFET technology under development by UMC and Intel Foundry is expected to deliver best-in-class power, performance and area efficiency.
Compared with UMC’s 14nm technology (14FFC), this 12nm technology delivers 10% higher performance using optimized FinFET devices and 20% power reduction by lowering voltage. The use of a 6-track standard cell design also reduces area by more than 10%, and a 3 mask layer saving further enhances its cost competitiveness.
This collaboration with Intel offers customers a cost-effective and smooth migration path beyond UMC's 22/28nm processes, and is well suited for high-growth applications such as WiFi and DTV SoCs for mobile and consumer devices, and high speed I/O chips used in PCs and data centers.
