Response to Recent Taiwan Earthquake - Final Update

Hsinchu, Taiwan, March 20, 2018 - UMC (TWSE: 2303, NYSE: UMC) today announced that the recent 5.2 magnitude earthquake recorded today in Chiayi at 5:22pm registered as a magnitude 4 at UMC's Fab 12A complex in Tainan. All personnel are safe at UMC facilities and there is no apparent damage to the fab buildings or machinery. Currently, we are performing inspections of the fab equipment and will update whether UMC's business operations will be affected.

Update (March 21, 2018, 9:00am Taiwan Time) - After thorough inspection of UMC's fab operations, we have concluded that there will be no material impact to UMC's business.
