UMC Ranked Top 5% in Corporate Governance Evaluation for 7th Consecutive Year

Hsinchu, Taiwan, May 7, 2021 - United Microelectronics Corporation (NYSE: UMC; TWSE: 2303) ("UMC"), a leading global semiconductor foundry, today announced that it was ranked in the top 5% of companies for the seventh consecutive year in the Corporate Governance Evaluation conducted by the Taiwan Stock Exchange and Taipei Exchange. UMC had outstanding marks in areas including the protection of shareholders' rights and interests, strength of operation of the Board of Directors and Director functions, timely information disclosure, and executing corporate social responsibility measures. The final 45 TWSE listed and 36 TPEx listed companies were selected from a total of 1,617 companies that were reviewed. Since the implementation of the Corporate Governance Evaluation in 2015, only 10 listed companies including UMC have won this award for seven consecutive years.

UMC not only continues to consciously strengthen the diversification of directors, but also sets up four committees under the Board of Directors: "Audit Committee," "Remuneration Committee," "Capital Budget Committee" and "Nomination Committee" to strengthen operational supervision and transparency, and ensure the rights and interests of all shareholders.

UMC also continues to uphold the vision of "People-oriented, Environmental Symbiosis, and Social Prosperity."
