UMC’s HeJian fab temporarily suspends production as employees test for COVID-19 infection

Hsinchu, Taiwan, February 14, 2022 – United Microelectronics Corporation (NYSE: UMC; TWSE: 2303)(“UMC”) today announced its 8-inch wafer fab subsidiary, HeJian Technology (Suzhou) Co., located in Suzhou, China, is temporarily halting its production after an employee is suspected of COVID-19 infection. A company-wide PCR test is being conducted. Once the PCR test is completed, HeJian Technology will resume its production as soon as possible with local authorities’ approval.

 

HeJian contributes approximately 5% to UMC’s consolidated revenues. UMC reiterates its first-quarter financial guidance will not be impacted by this event. The company’s first-quarter guidance is for average selling price to increase 5% quarter-on-quarter, gross profit margin to be approximately 40%, and shipment to remain flat. UMC’s market share will continue to grow in the global foundry market. This incident has no material impact on the company’s financial business.
