UMC received two prestigious accolades at the 2025 Asia Responsible Enterprise Awards (AREA), organized by Enterprise Asia. Among the honors, UMC Co-President and Chief Sustainability Officer SC Chien was named an award recipient in the Responsible Business Leadership category, recognizing  his leadership in advancing both business operations and sustainable development at UMC.

In addition, UMC received the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Award for the company’s longstanding commitment to transparency and integrity in ESG disclosures.

“At UMC, our principle is to do what is right, and to do it promptly and to the best of our ability,” said President Chien. “To advance circular economy in our industry, UMC is investing in the Circular Economy & Recycling Innovation Center, which is expected to reduce waste by more than 30% annually and transform it into valuable products worth approximately NT$100 million (US$3.4 million). By leveraging economic incentives, we aim to drive the circular use of resources and lead our supply chain forward in sustainability.”

The Asia Responsible Enterprise Awards (AREA), launched by Enterprise Asia in 2011, recognize outstanding achievements across various ESG categories, including Social Empowerment, Investment in People, Health Promotion, Green Leadership, Corporate Governance, Circular Economy Leadership, Corporate Sustainability Reporting, and Responsible Business Leadership. The awards draw participation from enterprises in over 19 countries across Asia.
