In 2023, UMC presents its Art Festival with the theme “A Banquet of Local Arts.” UMC invited local Taiwanese arts and performance groups to visit the Company, including Puppet and Its Double Theater (a pioneering contemporary puppetry group) and Crispy (Golden Melody winner for Best Vocal Group). These artists brought a series of activities including drama, music, lectures, and hands-on sessions to UMC. UMC aims to infuse art and culture into the technology sector through its annual Art Festival, nurturing increased awareness and admiration for the arts among employees, ultimately sparking innovation and fresh viewpoints.
“Every painting tells a story.” In 2023, UMC completed renovation of its headquarters in Hsinchu Science Park, adorning the corners and corridors of the building with masterpieces by artists such as Paul Chiang and Katsuyoshi Inokuma. When employees come to work, they feel as if they are entering a workspace that resembles an art gallery, with art seamlessly integrated into daily office life. Additionally, the Company gathered artworks from eleven artists and organized a month-long online art exhibition. Through the artworks and artist introductions, it allows employees to gain a deeper understanding of these artworks all around us.
In this year’s Art Festival, UMC extended a special invitation to art consultant Ms. Hui-Yuan Liu. On the theme of “Exploring the Artists’ World: The Splendor of UMC’s Art Collection,” Ms. Liu shared the meaning behind each artwork and their fascinating processes of creation. For instance, the painting Fantasia displayed in the lobby of the Hsinchu headquarters was specially created for UMC by the renowned artist Paul Chiang. Ms. Liu remarked, “This piece incorporates natural light, creating rich textures and color variations. It encompasses elements of the blue sea and sky, as well as a dialogue between sunlight, air, and water, altogether bringing a completely unique atmosphere to the lobby.”
The Puppet and Its Double Theater, a performance group who has had sold-out performances at the National Theater and National Concert Hall, made their debut at UMC for the Art Festival. They incorporated original Taiwanese rural themes into their puppetry performance, which sparked enthusiastic responses from UMC audience. Many staff members brought their children along to the performance, enjoying quality family time together. These child audiences were fascinated by the life-sized puppets and found them intriguing. By actively participating in puppetry and manipulating the puppets themselves, it ignited the children's creativity and imagination.
