高性能通訊晶片設計廠商 Fast-Chip 及聯華電子今日宣佈業界第一個 OC-192 網路處理器 (Services Processor) 已在聯華電子量產，命名為 PolicyEdge™。

採用聯電 0.18 微米技術的 PolicyEdge 提供高性能與智慧性的分類、編輯與收集統計資料功能：每秒傳輸速度為十至百億位元組 (1 to 10 Gigabits per second)。聯電的先進製程已讓初期投片的晶片有超於預期的良率，因此 Fast-Chip 可提供兩種速度等級的 PolicyEdge 給新興的 Metro 服務 (Metro Service)，路由器 (IP router) 及多項服務交換器 (multi service switch)市場。

聯電資深副總劉富臺博士表示：「我們非常高興聯電的技術能讓 Fast-Chip 在商業網路處理器產品發展中達到重要的里程碑。Fast-Chip 先進的 OC-192 設計連同聯電的製程技術讓 PolicyEdge 達到驚人的 10 Gbps 傳輸速度也更加鞏固了我們在多種技術應用上為業界領導者的地位。」

若就頻率 100MHz 而言， PolicyEdge 產品領先業界，以每秒 7 億個分組信息處理速度 (700 Million Packet Operations per second)， 應用在 framer 及 traffic manager 的資料路徑中間。

PolicyEdge 最高可處理 28 項分類、編輯及統計等運算同時保持其傳輸速度。OC-48 的PolicyEdge 適用於 PL3 介面；OC-192 的 PolicyEdge 適用於 SPI-4 介面，兩者皆提供連結到其他網路裝置。PolicyEdge 為單一晶片，可串聯 (Cascadable)，而且不需外來記憶體之裝置，提供業界最佳成本、密度及功率之組合。

Fast-Chip 的總經理暨執行長 Gregg Cook 先生表示：「Metro 設備供應商對 PolicyEdge 的功能很感興趣，其中包括以多協定標籤交換基準 (MPLS) 而設計之連接區域網路之功能(mapping Transparent LAN services over MPLS)，這必定是未來很大的個發展機會。Fast-Chip 與聯電的合作加快了 OC-192 ASSP 處理器推出的腳步，當我們採用 0.13 微米技術來發展下一世代晶片時 (於 2002 年) 也將更具發展潛能及空間。」

Fast-Chip 不僅利用聯電的晶圓專工服務及來發展 PolicyEdge，也利用了聯電的矽梭計劃 (Silicon Shuttle® Program) 來事先生產小部份的晶片。Fast-Chip 藉此而能在進入量產之前先驗證也確認 PolicyEdge 是否合乎標準及需求。

PolicyEdge 目前有 OC-48 及 OC-192 兩種速度等級，批量 5,000 件時 (100MHz 版本) 的價格為美金 $450。
